New Club President Elected for Berkeley Annapurna Lions Club

The Berkeley Annapurna Lions Club’s regular business meeting was held on May 21, 2023, at Dharma College in downtown Berkeley, and it was a significant occasion as the club elected its new set of officers. The meeting, attended by its members, and invited guests, was presided over by the Club President, Dr. Tika Lamsal, who warmly congratulated the newly elected officers and announced an exciting upcoming event for the club.

The highlight of the meeting was the announcement of the new Club President, Akhtar Ansari, by the Club’s past President, Bibek Shrestha. In addition to the new Club President, the first and second Vice Presidents were also announced. Dhurba Niraula and Sahib Shrestha were elected to these positions, respectively. With a strong team of leaders at the helm, the Berkeley Annapurna Lions Club is well poised to continue its impactful work in the community.

During the meeting, the club also expressed its heartfelt congratulations to Lion Manil, who was elected as the Governor-Elect, and Lion Laxmi, who was elected as the second VDG Elect. These achievements reflect the commitment and passion of the club members and their dedication to Lions Clubs International.

Namrata Dahal, the program coordinator, presented the income and expenditure details of the recently concluded Momo festival. The event was a success, and the funds raised through it will be utilized for a noble cause. After careful consideration and discussions with participating clubs, the Berkeley Annapurna Lions Club has decided to hand over the collected amount to the Lions Clubs International Foundation. This collaborative effort will contribute to the larger Lions Clubs International mission of making a positive impact worldwide.

The club treasurer, Hema Paneru, provided an update on the club’s dues. Clear financial management is essential for the smooth functioning of any organization, and the Berkeley Annapurna Lions Club is committed to maintaining transparency and accountability in its financial matters.

As the meeting drew to a close, Club President Dr. Tika Lamsal shared his gratitude and appreciation for the outgoing officers and extended his best wishes to the newly elected officers. He emphasized the importance of continuity and collaboration to achieve the club’s goals effectively.

Dr. Tika Lamsal also unveiled an upcoming event that has become a tradition for the Berkeley Annapurna Lions Club – the Annual Blood Drive. For over a decade, the club has been organizing this event, which is a joint effort with six other Nepali Lions Clubs of the District. The blood drive will be held on June 17th from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at 1111 Navellier St. El Cerrito 94530. By hosting this blood drive, the club aims to make a significant contribution to saving lives and supporting the healthcare needs of the community.

During the meeting, various programs and fundraising events were discussed, including updates on the District Installation and the Lions Clubs International convention. These discussions reflect the club’s commitment to staying actively engaged in regional and international Lions Club activities.

The Berkeley Annapurna Lions Club extended special thanks to Wangmo Dixie, the Director of Dharma College, and Tashi, the college’s representative, for their gracious hospitality in hosting the meeting. Dhruva Thapa, the past President and membership chair of the club, expressed gratitude on behalf of the club. After the meeting, the attendees were given a tour of the college, strengthening the bonds between the club and the local community.
